Jesus Blesses the Children

This episode is recounted in Matthew 19:13-14, Mark 10:13-16, and Luke 18:15-17. The gospels and the commentaries all emphasize the importance of Jesus' blessing the children through touch. Thus in this image we see him reaching out toward them. Their parents gesture to them on the right; the dour-looking figure on the left may represent the disciples who did not want the parents bothering Jesus.

None of the accounts have Jesus seated.
